Woodhavens' Green Caste
Guidelines
1: The
practice of medicine
is more then the
understanding of
scientific knowledge, it
is also a commitment to
one's City, one's Caste
and to humanity,
striving for the highest
degree of
professionalism.
In
Gorean society,
the Welfare of the
Caste
takes precedence over
the ambitions of an
individual, and the City
Laws take precedence
over the Gor wide
Green Caste Structure.
2:
WHGC
Mission statement:
To
Provide timely and
effective Medical
Intervention,
Monitoring and
safeguards for the
health and welfare of
the citizens of
Woodhaven, thus serving
the City. If you are
unable to help, Do no
harm.
And
To
ensure that the Laws of
the City, and the
standards of the Green
Caste are upheld and the
most current medical
information is made
available to the healers
of the city.
3:
WHGC Code of Ethics
a. To maintain the
health of one's Ubar and
House.
b. To maintain the
health of one's
Homestone and its
peoples.
c. To maintain
physician/patient
confidentiality with the
exception of minors, and
slaves where the
parent/guardian or owner
will be consulted and
informed.
d. To respect your
fellow Physicians,
treating your peers with
dignity and respect,
working in collaboration to provide
the best medical care to
the Homestone
e. To uphold a
consistent standard of
medical practice and a
way of life that is
beyond reproach.
4:
The
City's Green Caste
General Guidelines
a
-are intended to be a
work in progress. As the
caste evolves,
information changes,
scientific
break-throughs occur,
the Guidelines will need
to be updated annually<
mun year> to reflect
this development.
b -WoodHaven's Green
Caste provides
governance, support,
structure, guidelines
and training to the
physicians, healers and
slave healers of the
city.
c
-All practicing healers
in the city, MUST
register with the
WoodHaven GC. All
visiting healers must
check in with the WH GC
Chairs and obtain
clearance/permission to
practice within the City
lines with the exception
of the VOSK League
Healers with whom our
city has reciptocity.
They are already
registered with the WHGC
( when the list is
updated)
d
-While Registration with
the RCGP
is not required of the
Physicians of
WoodHaven,It is
encouraged. Proof of
education, experience
and skill will be
required of any
physician seeking to
practice in Wood Haven.
Said proof, shall
include some or all of
the following; Letters
of introduction from the
physician's most recent
places of practice,
interviews with the
Citys GC Chairs, a < 4
mun week > period of
observation/training/probation
under a WHGC Physician
of good standing if felt
to be required by
the Green Caste City
Chairs. The Physician
shall become a fully
accredited, and
practicing member of the
WH GC when The WHGC
Chairs are in agreement
as to the applicant's
skills and suitability
for the position and its
responsibilites. (
Requirements discussed
more completely below )
((The Following is OOC
as such discussion IC is
impossible ))
e
-The scrolls of John
Norman will be used as
much as possible as a
role playing guideline
for Gorean
medicine. However, it is
acknowledged that much
of Medical Practice
was left up to
interpretation in these
scrolls. Gorean
medicine, in the
Scrolls was frequently
described as being far
in advance of Earth
medicine.
f
-Gorean medicine is
commonly as
primitive compared to
Earthen medicine.
Nothing could be farther
from the truth. Gorean
medicine with it's
scientific developments
clearly out-pace the
advancements made on
earth. Diseases are
rarely seen in Goreans.
They live life-spans
measured in centuries.
Mental illness is
unheard of ( except in
barbarians and in AOL
Goreans.. for some odd
reason...) , as was
dental disease. The
stabilizations Serums
are an example of Green
Caste
medical superiority.
Aging is a breakdown in
the cellular
reproductive process.
Stabilization is a form
of advanced genetic
manipulation to prevent
the deterioration of the
genetic code in cells as
they reproduce over
time. In the books the
cure for
aging was described as
being the result of
centuries of research by
the Green Caste, not a
gift from the Priest
Kings. Thus it is
maintained in Woodhaven
by agreement of the
Administrator, and the
Chairs of the Green
Caste that is is
entirely
logical/reasonable/feasible
and necessary to assume
that advanced surgical,
diagnostic and medical
technologies are
available to those
practicing medicine on
Gor and therefore
in Woodhaven. Such
advancements would of
necessity have occurred
as a result of that
research into
aging. Therefore., X-ray,
CT scans, sonograms,
fetal monitors, IV's,
EEGs, EKG's,
transfusions,
Autoclaves, microscopes
of incredible
resolution, capable of
viewing RNA and DNA
strands (to make certain
the Stabilizations
"took", advanced
instumentation,
sterilization and
theoretical knowledge of
some urth diseases
(afterall some of the GC
practitioners may at one
point been from Earth as
well, bringing their
medical knowledge with
them). The only
technology that we have
agreed does not exist,
at least for Woodhaven
is MRI since MRI is a
laser-generated device,
and we shall admit that
lasers would not have
been invented on Gor,
because of their easy
conversion to a weapon
of mass destruction.
g
-The Priest Kings
strictly limited Goreans
development of
technologies which
relate to the ability to
the creation of weapons
of mass destruction.
Mass killing via a bomb,
missile, laser, would
never occur on Gor.
Combat remains for the
most part hand to hand,
ship to ship, catapult
to catapult. Thus, laser
surgery and laser based
diagnostics ( Such as
MRI ) will not be used
in WH, because of its
weapons-use capability.
Other Technologies will
exist, for although the
same technology can be
developed into a weapon
of mass destruction. the
science for such has not
progressed. The
scientist
usually vanished into a
blaze of blue fire
before he made any
significant headway.
h-
( Note:
It is recognized that
there are players who
strongly believe that
Gorean medical
technology is much more
strictly limited by the
PK's than we do in
Woodhaven. They advocate
that the practice of
medicine is restricted
to herbal pharmacology
and simple surgical
techniques. Woodhaven
Physician muns are
strongly urged to
recognize that they are
only SUPPORTIVE players
in the patient's SL. If
the patient's mun isnt
comfortable with the use
of modern medical
techniques and
treatments in their
story line, then the
Physician is to
accommodate the patient
mun's preferences in
their SL. )
i
-Slaves are property and
therefore can only be
treated with their
owner's permission. In
urgent situations,
provide first aid and
comfort measures, until
the owner is located and
permission for complete
treatment is obtained.
5:
Caste Membership
The WHGC is
made of The members of
the Green Caste, who
have been approved to
practice in Woodhaven.
6: Requirements/Procedure

provisionary certificate
of WHGC Licensure shall
be issued.
b *Approval
to practice medicine in
Woodhaven is granted
only to those
Free whom
are sworn to the
Homestone, or those

document.
c
*There is reciprocity
with the healers of the
other Vosk League
Cities. They do not
require Licensure to
practice medicine within
the borders of
Woodhaven. These healers
have offered to be on
call to the citizens of
Woodhaven, just as
Woodhaven Physicians are
on call to the other
Vosk League Cities.
d

agreed to be his/her
mentor. During which time the
mentor must be present
for the trainee to
practice
medicine. Then a 2 week
probationary period,
where the applicant can
practice under a
provisionary License. All
logs, however, must be
presented to the WHGC
Chairs for review and
approval.
These same logs can be
the required logs for RGCP Registration as
well.
2. RGCP
Registration will not be
required, but it will be
encouraged and
facilitated. (Note that
the logs required by the WHGC
can serve double duty
and provide RGCP
registration pending
approval.)

Elections
a
-Once the caste
membership reaches and
maintains numbers of 4
or more for a period
of one Gorean year
( 3 mun ) months, the
En' healer will call for
caste elections.
Otherwise Woodhaven's
Administrator will
appoint the positions of
En' healer, and Se'
healer for
a term of 2 Gorean
years. The terms will
run in conjunction with
the Administrators Election.
b- Elections will be
held every two Gorean
years (six Mun months)
for positions of First
Chair, Second
Chair, and Third Chair.
1: The
Caste Scribe will run
the elections, all votes
going to the Caste
Scribe and the City
Scribe and/or First
Chair of the WHSC
(Woodhaven Scribe Caste).
2: The
Scribe, at the direction
of the En'chair will
call for nominations.
a *Any
member of the WHGC in
good standing with the
caste is eligible to vote and to be
nominated to a chair.
b *A candidate must
respond to the
nomination within a
hand, either
declining or accepting
nomination. If nominated
for several positions, the nominee
may accept
nomination for only one
chair position.
3. When
the nominees are
established and
confirmed, A period of
one mun week
shall be be
established for the voting
process.
4. The
Caste scibe and the
City's En'scribe will
confirm the results, announcing the election
results within 3 mun
days of the end of the
voting period. In the case of a
tie vote, Administrator/Ubar will
be asked to cast a deciding vote.
5. New
Chair members will
assume their newly
confirmed positions at a
Caste meeting, set
within 2 mun weeks of
the end of the vote.
9:
Woodhaven
Medical Review Board
The three Chairs of the
WHGC will operate, when
necessary, as
the Woodhaven Medical
Review Board with the
En'Chair presiding. This
will allow the city to
adjudicate issues
locally instead of
sending them to the
larger caste.
A. Issues of
physician misconduct,
discrepancies in proper
RP (refer to city GLs),
or other IC issues may
be brought to the WH-MRB. Unsubstantiated
undocumented complaints
will be viewed as
slander. Be very very
careful about filing a complaint
about a physician. If it
is undocumented,
unsubstantiated,
the accused may file a counter
complaint.
B. The WH-MRB
decision is final, if it
cannot agree on the
outcome, the case may be
referred to the
larger caste
or Woodhaven's
Administrator if it
appears to be a matter affecting
the City.
10:
Meetings
Caste meetings will be
held at least once every
four hands <mun month>.
WH slave healers may
also attend. A Caste
Chair must be present
for the meeting to be
convened. Special
meetings may be called
if the En'Chair deems it
necessary. Attendance is
manditory.
Caste Chair Meetings are
at the descretion of the
En Chair, though may
be requested by any of
the 3 chairs.
11:
Caste
Education
a -In a Caste society, A
child's education into
the caste of his /her
parents begins at an early age. Many
skills are handed down
from parent to child,
taught at the parent's knee. Prelimiaries such
as fluency in ancient
gorean, anatomy, herbs,
their names and uses. Although It is
possible for a Gorean
not born into the Green
Caste to study to become
a physician, this
requires dedication to
the caste and
instructors and the meeting of
certain skills and
requirements as listed
below:
b
-Applicants will apply
to the Green Caste
Chairs in person or
missive. If accepted,
become candidates.
Guests from other
cities, must apply to
the Administrator for an extended
Guest pass.
c
-A training period is a
required part of any
Caste on Gor, and in
keeping with that
tenant, each
applicant will be
required to successfully
complete a training
period. Education and training will be
conducted in a hands on
clinical environment
under the supervision of a member of the WHGC.
d
-Candidates will be
appointed a mentor from
the WHGC for training
and education. The
process will last at
least 4 mun weeks,
during which there are
minimally 2 instructive
interactions
with the trainee and
their mentor per week.
The Physician
assigned as the mentor
will be responsible for
overseeing the care of
each patient during
this time. Apprentices
shall not see
patients except while
under direct supervision
of.His/her
Mentor or another
Physician must be
present. The apprentice
shall log the
case, obtaining
permission of the
patient's mun first (
which must be on the log ) and
forward it to the mentor
for review.
e
-The Physician assigned
as the mentor will be
ultimately responsible
for monitoring the care each patient
whom the apprentice
treats. At the
conclusion of the < 4 mun week> training
period, the mentor will
submit an evaluation (
including logs ) of the
apprentice to the
Members of the WHGC,
including their
recommendation if the
apprentice should be licensed.
f
-Utilizing the
recommendation of the
mentor and their own
observations of the
apprentice, the
Caste Chairs will
determine the readiness
of the apprentice.
An majority vote of approval of
the Chairs plus
mentor is necessary for
licensure.
g
-An unsuccessful review
from the Membership will
require the apprentice
to undergo
an additional training
period under
the supervision of a
different Physician. At
the
completion of the second
training period the same
review process will be
followed, except in
this instance an
unfavorable vote of the
Council will result in
the removal of the apprentice
from the Caste.
12: Slave
Healers
a- Slave healers are
recognized within the
city. Membership or
completion of the slave
healer
program offered by the
larger RGCP or GGC does
not automatically give a
slave healer the
right to practice in
Woodhaven.
b-
Slave healers should
acquaint themselves with
Woodhaven's Slave Healer
Program, laws and
restrictions. Slave
healers entering the
city shall present
themselves with their
owner's permission both
to practice, and to
handle sharp
instruments to the
City's Te'Physician to be
interviewed and
evaluated. A training
and probation period may
be required
after that to practice.
Full acceptance as a Woodhaven slave healer
requires the full
vote of the WHGC.
12:
Miscellaneous
a. When called to assist
a patient it is the
physician's
responsibility to speak
with the player of
the patient in IM. Find
out the injuries, the
extent, and how they
wish the SL to proceed
and turn out. They may
wish to live
through what should
be fatal injuries or for
some reason, kill off
the character. Remember,
It is their SL.
Note - The
physician shall not act
as a referree for a
dispute in a DM. A
physician mun may give
advice on the impact of
a certain injury,
severity, length of
recuperation, and how to
roleplay it as
realistically as
possible. The patient 's
mun should be given the
option of the healing
being done strictly by
role play or if they
wish the dice guidelines
used.
b. Pregnancy:
Length of a full term
pregnancy = 9 weeks {1
week = 1 month}.
Twins are not
an every day
occurrence in human
reproduction unless they
run in the
family. Triplets are
even rarer. ( IRL the
chances of getting
pregnant with triplets
is 1 in every 999,999
conceptions. It is that
rare. ) There is
no reference to the use
of fertility drugs in
the Norman scrolls,
therefore the
probability of having
a multiple birth should
be quite low.)
Breeding wine is not a
fertility drug. It
simply reverses the
effect of slave wine.
c.The dice system
commonly used in
Woodhaven for for
determining the Number
and gender of a player's
pregnancy reflects the
rarity of multiple
births and is as
follows:
Determining
Pregnancy
: 1d20 1-10 = yes,
11-20 = no
Number of
children
1d20 1 =
triplets 2, 3 = twins,
4+ = single birth.
Sex of
child
1d6 1-3
= girl, 4-6 = boy.
d. Disclaimer here:
ANY dice system for
determining Number, and
gender of the fetus can
be used as long as it
reflects the rarity of
multiple births, and is
agreed upon by the
patient and her
companion muns. Many
players have a dice
system they prefer, or
they may already have
their sl with number and
gender planned out.
Remember the physician
is a supporting
character in their
SL. Though if it is
too ridiculous and the
physician mun feels
strongly about playing
it out, the physician
mun may opt to refuse to
be included, and ask the
players to seek a
different physician for
their SL.
Regarding Multiple
Births: Please use
Common sense! Full term
pregnancies usually
result in
healthy infants.
Premature deliveries
have a higher mortality
rate and premature
infants have more
medical problems. The
earlier the infant, the
more medical problems it
shall have. Twins are
usually a bit early.
Triplets are typically
born earlier still. (
Recall that in the
books, euthanasia of a
seriously damaged
infant was an accepted
practice and not
considered cruel.
Therefore, there would
not be any children
growing up who were
blind, deaf crippled or
brain damaged from
birth. Especially
slaves! So make sure
the patient mun
understands that their
SL has limits. ) Of
course, you can arrange
any SL the patient mun wishes,
but keep it in line with
Woodhaven RP guidelines
if the patient mun also
resides in Woodhaven.
e. Child
molestation/rape story
lines are not in keeping
with Gorean traditions
and will not be
sanctioned by the caste
or by Woodhaven. Role
playing these SL's, is
doing so at your own
risk, the caste will not
become involved in any
way with them
f. A Physician should
not step into an already
ongoing healing
storyline even if called
to the scene, if there
is a Physician already
at the scene. The first
physician there is in
charge. Any later
arriving physician
should defer to the
primary physician ( IC
and OOC in IM ) re: what
is happening and if
their help is
desired/needed, as well
as in what way their
help is requested. A
later arriving physician
should NEVER take over
the healing SL unless
specifically requested
to BY the physician
there already, OR by the
patient, AFTER that
patient has informed the
first physician of their
treatment
preference. We are
there to enhance RP for
the patient as well as
ourselves.
g. NOTE:
NO physician shall
disparage, denigrate or
put down the skills of
any other, ESPECIALLY in
front of a patient, or
in a SL, Nor allow the
patient's mun to do
so in the room where the
SL is being played. The
Green Caste is a
Brotherhood which
supports its brothers
and sisters. Any
dissention, disrespect,
name calling
or unprofessional
behavior damages the
Castes credibility as a
whole in the eyes of the
community. If evidence
of blatant malpractice
on the part of another
WHGC member is obtained,
that
documentation
should be brought to the
attention of the WHGC
Chairs. NOT gossiped
around the Caste or the
City or elsewhere. No
documentation? No case.
Say nothing!
