Free Women

Laws Pertaining to Free Women:

1. Custom has often dictated that Free Women will cover their beauty with face veils. Within the City of Woodhaven, these customs will be adhered to by female Citizens, unless otherwise stated.  If a Free Woman with Guest status is from a locale where veils and robes are not the custom, she may adhere to the dictates of her origins when visiting. If approved for citizenship however, the local customs will be adhered to.

Wearing of hair unbound and loose will be reserved to children and slaves.

2. If the Free Woman is without obvious companion or guardian, the House Master, or in some situations, the Ubar will assume such role.

3. Striking of a Free Woman of the City is strictly prohibited. If her behavior is displeasing, then a report of her action shall be given to her companion or guardian for them to deal with as they deem appropriate.
She may be, at the offended one's option, chained and left at her abode. This is usually a City Guardsman's duty, but any Citizen may do this. When the role of Guardian is assumed by a House Master or the Ubar, then a complaint with an accompanying report is to be sent to the House Master and the Ubar/Administrator of Woodhaven, before whom she will stand to answer the charges.

4. In the event a female Citizen of Woodhaven is threatened or struck, with or without provocation, then her companion, guardian, or one appointed, may issue a challenge on her behalf to the offender. The severity of the match (death or merely to first blood or some other point) is decided by he who issues the challenge. If the Free Woman has no companion or guardian to stand for her honor, and the male is from Woodhaven, he may be asked to leave the House or banned from the City, depending upon the severity of the attack. A non-resident of Woodhaven may be publicly lashed and driven from the City; the decision of the Ubar/Administrator of Woodhaven is the last word.

5. In all public establishments and Houses, alcoholic beverages served to Free Women will be reduced in strength by either juice or water, by adding at least twice as much juice or water. Such will be the case with all such beverages, save the exclusion of Jasmine wine for its already low alcohol content. This law is to protect FW from the influence of such drinks to cause them to court the collar. Dispensation from this may be afforded at times by men present who are in the roles of guardian, father, brother or companion of the FW.

6. Any free woman who couches with another's slave, or even prepares to do so, becomes a slave herself and becomes the slave of the male slave's Master.
