Employing Our Children

I don’t know about you, but I’m being inundated with my children coming home from various activities, such as Girl Scouts, School, etc. with things to sell. Walk-a-thon, nuts, candy, magazines, gift cards, etc. I know the economy is struggling as is everyone else in this country. If we wanted to buy those thing’s, I’m sure we would head to the local Wal-Mart and buy them at a discount price. But due to our money being tight, we don’t buy the “extra’s” anymore.

These various organizations put together these huge displays in front of our children, encouraging them to sell, sell, sell, and earn prizes and stuff. What they don’t tell the kids is, most of the people they are selling to, have fallen on hard times and don’t have the money to spend. By asking, they are infringing on the potential customer and making them feel bad by having to say “No Thank you.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love to support my children and the local community. But how about these people take us into consideration before employing our children.

They are asking us to send our children out into perv town and sell products that are at an abnormal price in the hope that each child sell’s at least 5. Bringing the organization a profit. They are instructing our children to ask the old lady down the street who can barely afford food, to buy a magazine subscription. They are asking our children to burden their parents with the purchase of sponsoring their children in a Walk-a-thon to help the school go on field trips.

The children only understand that they can win a prize for X amount of product sold. A prize that Wal-Mart can’t even sell because us “Common Folk” know it’s a waste of money for a cheap ass toy.

What is this teaching our children? Employ the young. Earn money for bullshit stuff. When your want is higher than your need go out and find someone else to fund it. Con the elderly. Bribe the needy out of their money.

I’m not ok with this. These organizations need to live within their means just like everyone else. This just totally peeves me. I can’t get my children to clean their rooms but yet there willing to sell for the meer hope of earning a cheap toy. The lesson’s here are ridiculous.

If you decide to allow your children to sell their stuff. Please visit this site and read the precautions so that I can sleep comfortably at night.

I’m just sayin…
